Detailed Itinerary for 3 Days Lake Mburo National Park Safari.
Day 1: Pickup and Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park.
Pickup & Kampala City tour: On Day 1 of your 3 Days Lake Mburo national park safari, your guide will pick you up from any rendez-vous point of your choice. You can choose to have your pickup station at Entebbe International Airport or from your hotel in Kampala. You will then embark on a half day tour of Kampala city where you will visit interesting places such as; the Uganda Museum, Kabaka’s Palace, Idi Amin’s Torture chambers, Ndeere Cultural Center, craft village, and Namugongo Martyrs’ Shrine to mention but a few.
Transfer to Lake Mburo: Have lunch and then drive you to Lake Mburo national park which is located in the western park of Uganda. It is the smallest savannah national park in Uganda, covering 370 square kilometers. It will take you about five hours of driving to get to Lake Mburo National Park from Kisoro. You will stopover at Igongo Cultural Center and take a short tour of the museum. You will get to learn about the culture of the Bakiga and Banyankore people while there. Later proceed with your drive to Lake Mburo national park. You will embark on an evening game drive once you arrive in the park.
Night Game Drive: Upon your arrival in the park, check into your lodge and refresh yourself. After having your dinner, you will embark on a guided night game drive in the park. Night game drives in Lake Mburo national park offer visitors like you, the best opportunity to sight wildlife in the park that is rarely seen during the day. If you are lucky, you will spot a leopard, or lion. Guided night game drives in Lake Mburo start between 6:30 and 7pm and usually last two to three hours.
Driver back to your lodge for an overnight stay.
Day 2: Morning Game Drive & Afternoon Boat Cruise.
Morning Game Drive: After having your breakfast, you will embark on a 2- 3 hour morning game drive in the park. While on your game drive, you will view wildlife like; buffaloes, zebras, waterbucks, warthogs, impala, topi, duikers, hyenas, giraffes, reed bucks, over 100 elands and if you are lucky, some giraffes which are a recent addition to the park. Drive back to your lodge for lunch and rest for a while.
Afternoon Boat Cruise: Later in the afternoon, head out to Rwonyo for an evening boat cruise on the lake. The boat ride takes about 1- 2 hours and offers you great sights such as; crocodiles, hippos, buffaloes and some bird species such as; the white egret, fish eagles, kingfishers and Shoebill stock. The boat leaves Rwonyo every 2 hours starting from 8am.
Horseback Riding (Optional). After your boat cruise safari, you can opt to embark on a horseback riding safari in the park. There is nothing as thrilling and adventurous as exploring the national park on horseback. Get to see lots of wildlife animals up close like antelopes, impala, Sitatunga, giraffes, zebras and so many more. Also get to enjoy watching the sunset as wildlife animals in the park retire back to their dens for the night. Horseback riding activities in Lake Mburo national park take between 1½ to 5 hours depending on your riding experience.
Retire to your lodge for dinner and an overnight.
Day 3: Transfer back to Kampala and Departure.
Transfer back to Kampala & Departure: Wake up at a convenient time of your choice and have breakfast at leisure. Later meet up with your guide and drive back to Kampala with a stopover at Igongo Cultural Center for lunch and later at the equator monuments in Kayabwe where you can take some pictures. Upon your arrival in Kampala, your guide will drop you off at any preferred hotel of your choice. Alternatively, you can have your guide/drive drop you off directly at Entebbe International Airport in time to check-in and board your flight back home.
