Detailed Itinerary for 6 Days Volcanoes and Akagera Safari.
Day 1: Pick up and Transfer to Ruhengeri
You will be met by our guide who will pick you up from your hotel- Kigali transfer to Kigali city for a short city tour where you will visit the genocide memorial site and Kimironko market. Later, you will transfer to Ruhengeri town with lunch enroute. Arrive at your lodge in time to check-in and have dinner and overnight stay at your lodge.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Parc National des Volcans
Early in the morning after breakfast and a briefing from the RDB officials, set off for the gorilla trekking. This experience of gorilla trekking is a once in a life time adventure. The rangers will lead you deep into the forest in search of the Gorillas.
You will move up and down the rugged terrain until you finally meet these harmonious creatures whose company you will cherish for 1 hour. The activity in Rwanda can take 3-5 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas. In the afternoon you will head out for a cultural tour to Ibyi’wacu village for a cultural experience with a resident local guide. Visit the King’s palace and learn more about the Rwandan culture through dance and singing performances from the local intore dance troupe. Return for dinner and overnight stay at your lodge.
Day 3: Golden monkey Trek
Wake up to a good breakfast in the misty volcanoes forest and drive to the park headquarters where you will be briefed. After your briefing will embark on a guided trek in search for golden monkeys in the forest and this can take between 3-6 hours or more depending on their location. Once you have located a group, you will be given an hour with the primates and then head back to base where you will find your driver guide waiting for you. Head back to your lodge for lunch and relaxation.
Later have dinner and overnight stay same as above.
Day 4: Transfer to Akagera National Park- Afternoon Boat Cruise
Following breakfast served at your lodge, check out and embark on your transfer to Akagera National Park with a stopover for lunch in Kigali. After lunch, proceed with your drive to Akagera park, arriving in the afternoon. Upon your arrival in the park, you will embark on a boat cruise on Lake Ihema where you stand a chance to see a variety of wildlife such as crocodiles, hippos, elephants, as well as different species of birds around the lake area.
Later proceed to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Full Day Game Drive- Northern circuit
Following an early breakfast at your lodge, you will head out for a full day game drive in the northern circuit of Akagera national park. Look out for a variety of wildlife in the park including lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants, giraffes, buffalos and so many more. You will have both lunch and dinner at your lodge.
Day 6: Morning Game Drive and Transfer Back to Kigali
You will have breakfast early in the morning and head out for a morning game drive in the park. Do look out for any wildlife animals that you might not have seen in your previous game drive in the park. You will then exit the park and head back to Kigali with a stopover for lunch. Drop off will be in Kigali at any location of your choice as you will advise your driver guide.
