Our 6 Days Rwanda Tour has perfectly been designed to allow you track chimpanzees in Nyungwe forest national park and mountain gorillas in Volcanoes national park. Although those are the main highlights of this 6 Days Rwanda tour, you will also visit the king’s palace in Nyanza, national museum in Butare, track golden monkeys in Volcanoes national park and visit the Dian Fossey Center at Karisoke.
Highlight Itinerary for 6 Days Rwanda Tour (Chimpanzee and Gorilla Trekking)
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park.
Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking and Canopy walk.
Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Day 4: Gorilla Tracking and Visit Ibyi’wacu Village.
Day 5: Golden Monkey Trek and visit Dian Fossey Center at Karisoke
Day 6: Transfer Back to Kigali
Detailed Itinerary for 6 Days Rwanda Tour (Chimpanzee and Gorilla Trekking)
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park.
Pick up from Kigali International Airport or your hotel and embark on a 6 hours’ drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park. You will have a stopover in Butare, where you will visit the national museum of Rwanda, the king’s palace in Nyanza and national museum in Butare. You will have lunch before proceeding with your drive to your hotel where you will check-in upon arrival and refresh yourself. Dinner and overnight at designated lodge.
Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking and Canopy walk.
Enjoy breakfast and go for briefing about the endangered chimpanzees before entering the forest in search of the active and playful fellows in Nyungwe forest. The Chimpanzees are much easier to spot as they jump from one tree to another, chattering and laughing. Chimpanzee tracking usually takes about 3 hours. On finding them, spend an hour while taking pictures and videos. You will have your packed lunch. After lunch, you will head for the Canopy Walk-a swing bridge 50 meters in length that is suspended from large trees. You will be able to see the amazing rainforest with a bird’s eye view, spotting wildlife moving about below you there after connect to your accommodation to spend the evening at leisure. Dinner and overnight at your lodge same as above.
Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park (Approximately 7 hours’ drive)
Wake up in the morning and have breakfast at your lodge. Meet up with your driver guide and drive embark on about a 7 hours’ drive to Volcanoes national park with a stopover for lunch and to stretch. If you wish, you can have an optional visit to the Hotsprings. Dinner and overnight at you designated lodge.
Day 4: Gorilla Tracking and Visit Ibyi’wacu Village.
Wakeup to an early morning breakfast and report to the park headquarters for briefing and allocation of Gorilla trekking groups. Later, you will head into the cold and misty forested slopes of Virunga national park for your Gorilla trek. The trek can be anywhere between 2 to 6 hours depending on the movement of the Gorillas and upon finding them, you will be allowed 1 hour to see and take photos after which you exit the forest. Have your packed lunch and then head back to base where you will find your driver guide waiting for you. You will then drive to Ibyi’wacu village for a cultural tour. Here you will visit the former King’s palace, dress in traditional Rwanda attire, watch folk dance performances from the local intore dance troupe and learn more about Rwanda’s unique culture. Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge.
Day 5: Golden Monkey Trek and visit Dian Fossey Center at Karisoke
As early at 6am, you will be expected to be up for breakfast and ready to set off for the trek. Our guide will meet you after having your breakfast and your lunches packed and he will take you to Kinigi Headquarters where you are expected to be given a brief before starting the golden monkey trek. This brief is done at 7am. You are given guidelines during this brief before you are allowed to start the trek. This golden monkey trek can take to about 2 hours to half a day as it’s unpredictable. When you finally find the gorillas, you will have to maintain a 6 meters’ distance and you are allowed one hour to admire and take photos of the monkeys.
After your gorilla trek, you will have your packed lunch and head back to base where you will find your driver guide waiting for you. You will then drive to Dian Fossey Fund at Karisoke Centre where you will take a tour of the museum and learn more about her work.
Later spend the rest of the evening relaxing at your lodge. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.
Day 6: Transfer Back to Kigali
On this day you will have breakfast at your own pace but ensure to check out of the hotel in time. Our guide will be waiting to drive you back to Kigali International Airport or any location you will advise in Kigali.
