This 5 Days Volcanoes Gorillas and Nyungwe Tour gives you a chance to track mountain gorillas in volcanoes national park and chimpanzees in Nyungwe forest national park. Both these parks are the leading primate parks in Rwanda with Volcanoes national park being the only park in Rwanda where you can do gorilla trekking during your visit to the country. This tour begins and ends in Kigali city.

Detailed Itinerary for 5 Days Volcanoes Gorillas and Nyungwe Tour
Day 1: Pickup from Kigali and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park- Ibyi’wacu Village Tour
Your driver guide will pick you up from Kigali International Airport upon your arrival. After a brief meet and greet session, you will be briefed on your safari, have lunch in Kigali and then proceed with your 3 hours’ drive to Volcanoes National Park. Upon your arrival at the park, you will visit Ibyi’wacu village for a cultural tour.
Later you will check-in at your lodge and refreshen up. Dinner and overnight stay at designated lodge/hotel.
Day 2: Gorilla Trek
Breakfast will be served early. The briefing is at 7 am. Your guide will give you highlights of specific details about the way of life of the gorillas you will be tracking. The hike can take anything from one to seven hours.
Trekking through the steep, bamboo slopes and then finally coming across the gorillas camouflaged in the vegetation is an inspiring and privileged moment. Once you reach the gorillas, you are allowed to spend one hour with them as you stand 6 meters away. Upon completion of this magical encounter, you will connect again with your driver / guide and drive to your lodge for lunch and refresh yourself. After lunch you will transfer back to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay same as above.
Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park (About 7 hours’ drive)
Wake up to a tasty breakfast, check out of your hotel and embark on your transfer to Nyungwe forest national park with a stopover for lunch en-route and to stretch. Dinner and overnight stay at your designated lodge/hotel.
Day 4: Chimpanzee Trek and Canopy Walk
Enjoy breakfast and go for briefing before entering the forest, searching for the active and playful fellows in Nyungwe forest. Chimpanzee treks in Nyungwe park start at 5am so you will need to be at the park’s briefing point early and ensure to carry packed lunch from the lodge. The Chimpanzees are the easy to spot, as they jump from one tree to another, chattering and laughing. Chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe forest national park usually takes about 4-6 hours or more depending on the location of the chimps. Once you have located the chimps, you will be given an hour to spend with the chimpanzees.
After lunch, you will go on a walking trail that will take you to the Canopy Walk, a swing bridge 50 meters in length that is suspended from large trees. You will be able to see the amazing rainforest with a bird’s eye view, spotting wildlife moving about below you.
Later drive back to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay same as above.
Day 5: Transfer Back to Kigali
Wake up at leisure and have a relaxed breakfast meal at the lodge. Later check out in time and meet up with your driver guide and embark on your return journey to Kigali with a stopover visit to the former King’s palace in Nyanza and national museum in Butare, with lunch en route. Upon your arrival in Kigali, your driver guide will drop you off at your hotel or Kigali international airport for your flight.
