5 Days Rwanda Gorillas, Golden monkeys & Bisoke hike safari is an extraordinary adventure that will give you an opportunity to explore Volcanoes national park which is located in the northwestern part of Rwanda. During the safari you will be able to engage in gorilla and golden monkey trekking activities where you will be able to spend time with the primates in their environment, cultural tour where you will be able to interact with the local people in the community and climb mount Bisoke which is a dormant volcano that rises at an altitude of 3711metres above the sea level.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Volcanoes national park,

Arrival and transfer to Volcanoes national park, depending on your location on the first day of the 5 days Rwanda gorillas, golden monkeys and Bisoke hike safari you will be welcomed by our driver guide who will brief you about the tour and then transfer to Kigali for a city tour. During the city tour you will be able to visit Kigali genocide memorial centre, national museum, Kimironko market, craft markets among others. After the city tour you will go for buffet in one of the hotels and after start the journey to Volcanoes national park. Upon arrival you will check into the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes national park

Gorilla trekking, after an early breakfast on the second day of the 5 days Rwanda gorillas, golden monkeys and Bisoke hike safari you will carry your lunch box and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing about the rules and regulations of gorilla trekking. After the briefing you will be allocated a gorilla family to trek and a park guide who is well conversant with trails in the jungle. Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes national park takes about 30 minutes to 7 hours depending on where they slept the previous night, during trekking you will have great views of different bird species, other primates, views of plants among others. once the mountain gorillas are found you will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their natural habitat which helps you to learn about their behaviors, watch them carry out their daily activities like breastfeeding, feeding, resting, playing, grooming young one, take photos and record the moments with a flash less camera to show people back home. After the one hour with the gentle giants you will trek back to the park headquarters where you will be awarded a certificate for participating in gorilla trekking, meet up with your driver guide and return to the lodge for an evening relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Golden monkey trekking and cultural tour

Golden monkey trekking, on the third day of the 5 days Rwanda gorillas, golden monkeys and Bisoke hike safari you will have an early breakfast and your driver guide will pick you up from the lodge and drive to the park headquarters for a briefing about golden monkey trekking from the park guide. After the briefing you will be allocated a golden monkey family to trek and a park guide who will lead you into the forest during trekking. Golden monkey trekking is an active and exciting activity that takes about 30 minutes to 3 hours depending on where the golden monkeys are located because they like to move from one place to another in search of food. During trekking you will follow left over bamboo shoots, leaves and when they are found you will be able to learn about their habits, behaviors, watch them jump from one tree to another, take pictures and record the incredible moments. After the face to face encounter with the golden monkeys you will trek back to the park headquarters where you will meet up with your driver guide and drive back to the lodge for lunch.

Cultural tour, after lunch you will go for a cultural tour where you will be able to visit Ibyi’wacu cultural village which is located close to Volcanoes national park. During the cultural tour you will get an opportunity to interact with the local people where you will be able learn about their culture, traditional lifestyle, learn how to make local handcrafts, local brew from bananas, listen to the ancient stories, visit the traditional healer, taste their local dishes, enjoy traditional songs and drama among others which gives you memorable experience.

Day 4: Climbing mount Bisoke

Mount Bisoke hike, on the fourth day of the 5 days Rwanda gorillas, golden monkeys and Bisoke hike safari you will have an early breakfast and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing about hiking mount Bisoke. After the briefing you will be allocated an experienced park guide who is knowledgeable about the mountain and start trekking which takes about 6 hours including the 2 hours descending down to the starting point. Mount Bisoke is a dormant volcano that rises at an altitude of 3711 meters above the sea level and during hiking you will pass through different vegetation types like alpine, bamboo forest, Hypercom forests where you will have spectacular views of forest elephants, primates like golden monkeys, gorillas, view different bird species among others . When you reach the summit you will have great views of the Crater Lake, Virunga mountain ranges, take incredible pictures and then have a picnic lunch. After lunch you will start descending down to the starting point where you will meet up with your driver guide and transfer to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Departure to Kigali

On the last day of the 5 Days Rwanda Gorillas, Golden monkeys & Bisoke hike safari, you will have a relaxed breakfast, check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Kigali international airport for your departure flight or transfer to the hotel.
