During your 3 Days Chimpanzee trekking safari in Nyungwe national park, you will get to track a group of habituated chimpanzees in Nyungwe forest and also embark on an adventurous hiking trip along the canopy walkway. You will also take a community cultural tour to Gisakura tea estate where you will tour tea plantations and also taste some of Rwanda’s finest tea.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Pickup in Kigali and Transfer to Nyungwe National Park.
Pick up and Kigali City Tour: On Day 1 of this 3 Days Nyungwe Chimpanzee Trekking Safari, you will be picked by your guide from Kigali international airport. After a brief meet and greet session, you with will embark on a tour of Kigali city where you will visit interesting cultural and historical sites like; Kigali Genocide Memorial, Umusambi Crane Village, and Camp Kigali Memorial Center to mention but a few. After your tour of Kigali City, have lunch and proceed with your transfer to Akagera National Park.
Transfer to Nyungwe: You will drive 268km to Nyungwe Forest National Park. This journey takes about 4-6 hours’ drive and will take you through the beautiful and terraced rolling hills of Rwanda.
Upon your arrival in the park, Check into your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking & Visit Gisakura Tea Estate.
Chimpanzee Trekking: Have an early breakfast and then head to the Park’s headquarters in Uwinka where you will be briefed by the park’s head ranger and placed in trekking groups of 8 members per group. Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe forest national park begins at exactly 8am, so endeavor to keep time and make sure you are at the Uwinka center by 7am. While tracking chimps in the forest, you might as well spot other primate species such as; the black and white colobus monkey, red-tailed monkey, golden monkey and other monkey species. You will have your packed lunch after your chimp trekking activity. Alternatively, you can drive back to your lodge for lunch and rest for a while.
Visit Gisakura Tea Estate: Later in the evening, you can head to Gisakura Tea estate. Here, you will be taken through the process of tea growing, harvesting, processing and packaging. You will even get to taste the delicious taste of the final product.
Return back to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Canopy Walkway & Transfer back to Kigali.
Canopy Walkway: Wake up early in the morning, have your breakfast and head back to the park’s headquarters at Uwinka Centre. This is where you will begin your hiking trip, which will lead you to the Canopy Walkway. Nyungwe’s canopy walkway is 90 meters long and 50 meters above the ground. While on the canopy walkway, you will get a good look of the forest from a bird’s eye view and also get to experience the adrenalin rush through your spine as you traverse the 200m long series of walkways in the forest canopy. You can take some pictures along the canopy walkway bridge and view some wildlife in the forest such as primates like the Black and White colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, chimpanzees and even different kinds of bird species that inhabit Nyungwe’s canopy walkway. Later drive back to your lodge for lunch.
Transfer back to Kigali: After having your lunch, your guide/driver will drive you back to Kigali city where you can be dropped off at any hotel of your choice in the city, or at Kigali airport depending on your departure schedule. End of Tour.
