1 Day Gorilla Trek In Rwanda
1 Day Gorilla Trek In Rwanda : The gorilla trekking was a great experience! It was fun to see all of the different gorillas in their natural habitat. The guides were very informative and made sure that we saw a lot of the gorillas. The gorillas were inhabiting the Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda. They typically sleep most of the day, so the time we had with them was limited. We hiked through the forest to search for them. We saw several groups of gorillas on the day we went, including one group of young gorillas that climbed on a tree right next to our camp site!
A gorilla trekking permit in Rwanda goes for $1500 per person. Many people book their trek through tour companies such as because it can sometimes be difficult to find a tour guide that can take you to all of the parks. I would recommend staying overnight at the ecolodges in the park for an authentic experience.
Our day started early, around 5 am. We went on a short hike through the rainforest and then we hiked through the forest in search of the mountain gorillas. The guides looked for tracks and then led us through the area where they were most likely to be found. It was amazing to see all the different types of plants and trees in the forest. We found signs that some of the gorillas had been there just a few days before!
Gorillas stay in family groups led by an alpha male called a Silverback. One of the families we saw was called the Susa family. They have about 29 members in the group and they move around a lot in order to find food and protect their territory. When we saw the Susa family, they were foraging for food and playing with one another. After a while, they went up to the top branches of a tree and played a game.
One of the females jumped off the tree and the other gorillas chased her and tried to catch her. It was a lot of fun watching them play! After about an hour of watching the gorillas, the guide took us to a waterfall where we cooled off and had a shower. We had a delicious lunch of chicken and vegetables with rice from a restaurant near the Volcanoes National Park called “Le Village du Volcan”. After lunch, we walked back to the campsite where we enjoyed a delicious dinner cooked by their guide who taught us a few Rwandan dishes, 1 Day Gorilla Trek In Rwanda.
How To Get to Volcanoes National Park
Locate a tour company that specializes in Rwanda’s national parks, I used Explore Rwanda Tours for my tour but there are plenty of other companies out there as well. I recommend booking a guided tour because you will get to meet local people and learn about their culture while spending time in the wilderness of the parks.
Fun Facts About Gorillas

Why I Really Want to Visit Volcanoes National Park
The gorillas are really intelligent and have an interesting social structure; the males are called silverbacks because they look like their backs are shiny when they stand up straight. Gorillas are also the largest of the great apes and are an endangered species due to poaching and the destruction of their natural habitats. I would really like to visit the gorillas because they are such amazing creatures and I would love to see them in their natural habitat and learn as much as I can about them.
