Holistic Gorilla Experience At Volcanoes National Park In Rwanda
Holistic Gorilla Experience At Volcanoes National Park In Rwanda : The last few weeks I’ve been in Rwanda, visiting Volcanoes National Park. The park is a biodiversity hotspot, and as such has an incredible array of animals living there.
I was on a tour organized by the Gorillas in the Mist Experience Company and was given the chance to see wild Rwanda gorillas in their natural habitat. As well as seeing the gorillas, we were also allowed to get close to several other animals and to learn about them. As someone who loves to travel, it was one of the most exciting experiences of my life!
The experience started with a drive to a lookout point on the edge of Lake Burera, where we first saw some of the amazing animals that live in the park. These included hippos, buffalos, monkeys and many different types of birds. After we stopped at the lookout point, we started our hike up the mountain to the gorillas’ nests. It took about three hours to reach them, and the trek was great fun (although hard work!). When we arrived at base camp we were given a little information about what we were going to do during our stay at the park. After this, our guide led us on a walk through the forest towards the gorillas’ nests so we could get some lunch and rest before we had a chance to see the animals.
After lunch we spent some time looking around the forest and admiring the views before setting off to find the gorillas. We met up with our guide again, who explained to us how to behave in the presence of the gorillas and then led us to an area where they could see us but we couldn’t see them. We sat there for about half an hour, watching the gorillas and listening to their calls before our allotted time was up and we had to move on. It was an amazing experience seeing the gorillas so close in their natural environment and knowing that I was one of the first people in the world to see them up close like that, Holistic Gorilla Experience At Volcanoes National Park In Rwanda
We were lucky in being able to see the gorillas as they played together and relaxed, but unfortunately, we didn’t get to see them eat or mate. I got the impression that they were much more interested in each other and weren’t looking for human company. Our guide told us that they had spent the morning eating fruit and were planning on sleeping for the rest of the day, so we won’t see them for another two hours or so. One of the gorilla family groups we were able to see was named Oruzogo, which means “the mountain guides” in the local language. They are a large group of gorillas whose territory covers parts of three countries – Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The habitat of the Oruzogo group includes a large forested valley with steep mountainsides and deep valleys that lead down to the lake shore. The area they live in is mountainous rainforest and is therefore extremely rich in animal and plant life. The group is made up of over 30 members, most of whom are young males. It was truly an unforgeable experience seeing the gorillas in their natural habitat. Spending time with them was such a privilege, and I enjoyed every minute of it.
