Accommodations in Volcanoes National Park
Accommodations in Volcanoes National Park : The Parc National des Volcans is a protected area covering an area of about 100 km2 in the North West Province of Rwanda. It is situated on the border between Rwanda and Uganda and was established in 1925 to protect the mountain gorillas that inhabit the area. Today the park is home to over 1,000 gorillas and several other rare species of flora and fauna. The park can be accessed by road from Kigali but the best way to experience the natural beauty of the park is by trekking through the rainforest on foot or by motorbike.
Hiking in the park is one of the fun activities to do there however it can be an arduous task, so it is important to choose a lodge that is close to your hike so that you can rest and recover after the day’s activities. There are three types of lodges available in this park: mountain huts, lakeside lodges and camping grounds. The hiking routes are challenging, so it is important to select a lodge that is well-positioned in the area that you are visiting. Lakeside lodges offer great views of the lake and the mountains, but some of these lodges do not offer accommodation during the rainy season (March to May). Campsites are also available for visitors who are camping in the national park. There are basic facilities available, including toilets, showers and cooking areas.
