Detailed Itinerary for 4 Days Akagera, Bwindi Gorillas and Lake Bunyonyi Safari.

Day 1: Pickup from Kigali and Drive to Akagera National Park.

Following breakfast, you will be picked up by our safari guide and taken to Akagera National Park in eastern Rwanda. The journey takes about 2-3 hours. Upon arrival, you will embark on a nature walk before eating lunch at Akagera Game Lodge.

In the afternoon, you’ll take a boat cruise on Lake Ihema to witness aquatic wildlife including hippos and crocodiles, as well as water birds like the papyrus Gonolek, shoebill stork, and African fish eagle. You’ll then return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Morning Game Drive and Transfer to Bwindi National Park

Following breakfast, you will travel on an early morning game drive to witness elephants, impalas, black-tailed mongooses, hippo, oribi, bushbuck, antelope, zebra, Cape eland, giraffe, buffalo, and primates such as the olive baboon, vervet monkey, bush baby, and so on.

We will go to the border for clearance before continuing on to Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for gorilla trekking. We will have dinner and stay overnight at the camp.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking and Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

Following an early breakfast, stroll to the park headquarters for a briefing on the dos and don’ts of gorilla tracking before heading out on the trail. Gorilla tracking normally takes between 2 and 8 hours (or even a day) to find the gorillas. You will be permitted to be in the company of these magnificent monkeys for at least an hour. It is recommended that you bring a packed lunch, which will be served, because one cannot predict how long it will take to see the mountain gorillas.

Afterwards, head to Lake Bunyonyi. The trip will take you through a picturesque section of the nation known as “the Switzerland of Africa” because to its unusually temperate temperature despite its proximity to the Equator. This lake is said to be one of the most beautiful sites in western Uganda. It is Africa’s second-deepest lake (900 meters), and one of the few spots in the country where swimming is deemed safe due to the absence of bilharzia. Return for supper and overnight stay.

Day 4: Morning Boat Cruise and Transfer Back to Kigali

Following an early breakfast, you will enjoy a boat trip on the lake and see the various islands. We next travel to another border, this time the Katuna frontier, to pass into Rwanda. We will take a Kigali city tour, beginning with a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre. We will see other city sites and artisan markets before being taken to Kigali Airport to catch your journey back home.
