The Sabyinyo Silverback lodge would be a great choice to spend your nights in between the activities in the Volcanoes national park and here are a few of the reasons as to why. The Sabyinyo Silverback lodge was Rwanda’s very first ever community owned lodge. The Sabyinyo silverback lodge was built under the Governor’s Camp Collection and is also operated by the Governor’s Camp collection however the ownership rights are for the Sabyinyo Community Livelihood Association (SACOLA) which was started in 2006. 15 years later, more than 5,000 households in the area have been a part of this initiative.
The main aim of the Sabyinyo Community Livelihood Association (SACOLA) is to push for the socio-economic initiatives as well as conservation in the local communities living around the park. This is being done through using the rent fee and the community fees collected from every night stay sold at the lodge. An experience of mountain gorilla trekking from a stay at the Sabyinyo silver back lodge is as authentic as can be as guests can take on an on foot transfer from the lodge to the park reception for the briefing.
