Detailed Itinerary for 6 Days Kenya and Tanzania Great Migration Safari

Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi and Fly to Masai Mara National Reserve

When arrive in Kenya, you will be greeted by a pleasant agent who will guide you through immigration, customs, and luggage collection. They will accompany you till you meet your driver in the arrivals area. You will then be taken to the domestic airport, where you will take a small aircraft journey to the Masai Mara.

When you arrive in the Masai Mara, a representative will meet you and transport you to your safari camp, where you will spend the following three nights.

Basecamp Masai Mara is a small camp on the Talek River, surrounded by bush, so keep an eye out for the abundant wildlife and the occasional monkey. Safaris from here travel to Masai Mara National Reserve. This may be one of the busiest locations in the Mara, but the wildlife is spectacular.

Day 2&3: Full Day Game Drive in Masai Mara

You have the following two full days to enjoy two game drives each day on the Masai Mara plains, where you will see a variety of African species. This renowned reserve provides excellent wildlife watching possibilities, with a good likelihood of seeing zebra, impala, gazelle, wildebeest, buffalo, rhino, and elephant, as well as lions, cheetahs, and leopards.

During the months of August to November, you may view the Great Migration in the Mara; however, the herds’ migrations alter yearly, making it difficult to forecast their location. Our travel professionals have the first-hand knowledge required to arrange you in the finest possible location.

In addition to game drives, there are a variety of additional activities available during your stay in the Masai Mara. These include cultural trips to Maasai towns and marketplaces, guided bush hikes, and an early morning hot air balloon journey over the Masai Mara’s grasslands and woods. These can be added at an additional fee.

Day 4: Fly to Serengeti National Park

Following breakfast, you will be taken to the airfield for your journey into Tanzania and the Serengeti. Some operators may propose driving this part, however this makes for a very lengthy day and eliminates any opportunity of wildlife seeing because you must spend the whole day on the road. A flight is the greatest way to get the most of a short safari trip.

This portion of the Serengeti is far less frequented than others, yet it boasts wonderful year-round wildlife and a chance to view the Great Migration between July and September, and potentially November.

Day 5: Explore Northern Serengeti

The Serengeti has some of the greatest animal viewing in Africa. Today you will enjoy a full day of game viewing in northern Serengeti.

Every year, more than two million wildebeest and zebra migrate north from Serengeti National Park to Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve. The herds must cross the hazardous Mara River, which flows through Kenya’s Masai Mara and Tanzania’s Serengeti. They must navigate difficult water currents and deadly predators as they cross the river in pursuit of better pastures. Crocodiles lurk in the murky rivers, while lions, cheetahs, leopards, and hyenas patrol the riverbanks, making this a very perilous time to be a wildebeest or zebra.

Day 6: Transfer to Arusha

After having your breakfast today, you will check out of your lodge and meet up with your driver guide. You will then head back to Arusha city where your driver guide will drop you off at a hotel of your choice or Kilimanjaro International Airport as you will advise.
