During the safari you will engage in an adventurous gorilla trekking activity where you will get an opportunity to spend time with the endangered mountain gorillas and hiking mount Bisoke which is the most popular dormant volcano in the park that stands at an elevation of 3711m above the sea level.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1 of the 3 days Rwanda gorilla trekking and Mount Bisoke hike

Arrival and transfer to Volcanoes national park, upon arrival at Kigali international airport on the first day of the 3 days Rwanda gorilla trekking and Mount Bisoke hike you will be welcomed by our driver guide who will brief you about the safari and then transfer to Kigali for a city tour. During the city tour you will be able to visit Kigali genocide memorial center, Kimironko market where you will interact with the local traders, visit art and craft centers among others. After the Kigali city tour you will have lunch and then start the journey to Volcanoes national park which takes about 2 to 3 hours drive. On the way you will have spectacular views of the local people, rolling hills, traditional homesteads, beautiful landscape among others and upon arrival you will check into the lodge, have dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Mount Bisoke hike

Mount Bisoke hike, after an early breakfast on the second day of the 3 days Rwanda gorilla trekking and Mount Bisoke hike you will carry your lunch box and your driver guide will pick you up from the lodge to transfer to the park headquarters for a pre-hike briefing. After the briefing you will be allocated an experienced park guide who is knowledgeable about the mountain adventures and then drive to the starting point where you will be given a hiking stick and a porter to help you carry your back pack during trekking. Hiking mount Bisoke takes about 6 hours including the 2 hours descending down to the starting point and the hike will be filled with great views of different vegetation types such as bamboo forest, Alpine, lobelia bush, animals like elephants, lions, primates like golden monkeys, view different bird species among others. When you reach the summit you will have spectacular views of the Crater Lake, Rwenzori mountain ranges, views of volcanoes national park, Mgahinga gorilla national park, Virunga national park, take photos among others. After having the breathtaking views at the summit you will have picnic lunch and after start descend down to the starting point, upon arrival you will meet up with your driver guide to transfer to the lodge for an evening relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes national park

Gorilla trekking, after an early breakfast on the last day of the 3 days Rwanda gorilla trekking and Mount Bisoke hike you will carry your lunch box and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Kinigi park headquarters for a briefing about the rules, regulations and expectations of gorilla trekking. After the briefing you will be allocated a habituated gorilla family to trek and a park guide who is well conversant with trails in the forest. Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes national park takes about 30 minutes to 7 hours depending on the location of the mountain gorillas because they like to move from one place to another in search of food. During trekking you will have stunning views of other wildlife species such as birds, plants, other primates like vervet monkeys, red tailed monkeys among others and once the gorillas are found you will be able to spend one hour with them in their natural environment where you will be able to observe their behaviors, habits, watch them feeding, breastfeeding, playing, take great pictures and record the breathtaking moments to show people back home. After the one hour with the gentle giants you will return back to the lodge for late lunch and after lunch check out of the lodge to start the journey to Kigali international airport for your departure flight or to the hotel in Kigali depending on your schedule.
